Alaqua Animal Rescue Rocks!
This is "P" Penolope A.K.A Tweety. Alaqua helped me find a sister for Meow Meow. I know that she was extremely cared for and loved. They made the adoption process smooth and informative. I feel as if they truly care for each animal that comes and goes from their Facility.
Thank you for our New family Member!
Sincerely,
The Welty Family
Amazing adopting experience! Everyone was so nice and a beautiful facility. We adopted our two babies from there! They socialize their kittens too so these babies were already so loving and sweet!!
It is wonderful what Allaqua is doing for the community. I believe that if you are able, everyone should foster one of these wonderful dogs if they're unable to adopt. This is Tammie, and she really needs a home where it is very quiet. She is old but very loving and fully housebroken.
My wife and I are fostering a very abused and starved Catahoula. Alaqua had rescued this sweet girl from a puppy farm and she was almost unsalvageable. Through their outstanding care she was nursed back to health enough that we were able to bring her to our home to continue her recovery.
These people are so kind and compassionate towards all animals.
Alaqua is also a great place to visit if you enjoy seeing how animal care and rehabilitation should be done.
If you ever want to find a place that really makes a difference to volunteer your time, this would be a great opportunity.
I can't say enough good here.
Update:
Since I posted this originally, we have been able to adopt Luna. The people at Alaqua had performed several surgeries and spayed her before we were able to receive her as a new, permanent member of our home. These are great people!!
The pictures are before and after.
We came here to view a car show that was being sponsored by alaqua! The exceptional staff that was catering the show and showing off the animals were amazing people. If I could adopt a pal I would do it here. Only thing is if you buy a horse from them you can't ride it they stinks but I understand where they are coming from in a way. It's like they have control over an animal that is adopted from them for life kinda ridiculous. I wonder if it's the same criteria for cats and dogs. They'll probably respond and we will know.
Excellent experience and response from the Alaqua wildlife rescue team. We found an injured pelican on the beach behind the Back Porch restaurant in Destin. He was limping and kept coming to the beach probably in search for help. He looked like he was in some serious pain and needed help. There was a local deputy on the beach that we asked for help. He tried but couldn't catch the bird as he kept limping around and flying off. The deputy said he would call a local rescue for help. So we waited and nothing happened. I then called first rescue that came up on Google search. Apparently, it was the same rescue the deputy had called. They said being a non profit, they don't typically come out for such things. They asked if we could catch the bird and drive it to them. Having never handled pelicans before, we didn't know how to approach it without the bird attacking us or possibly injuring it even more. At the rescue's suggestion, we ended up catching him by throwing a towel over the pelican. But putting an injured wild bird in our rental car and driving it for 30 miles didn't seem like a good idea. We thought we could just cut the line and let him go. When we caught the bird, things looked a lot worse! He had a fish line around his leg with the hook embedded in it and also a barbed fishing hook stuck in his left side. Tried calling another rescue with no luck. I didn't have much hope when I called Alaqua as a last resort. They said they had a person in the Destin area closeby that would contact me. Michelle called me back immediately and said she'd be there in ten minutes. We held the pelican and tried to make him as comfortable as we could. Michelle arrived shortly after and took him away. The rescue later texted me that they had removed the lead and line and got the hooks out. Thankful that Alaqua came to the rescue when no one else did and saved the poor bird from pain and misery. Really impressed and grateful that the pelican got another shot at life thanks to the Alaqua crew.
This place is awesome. Whenever I come to town with my daughter, we love volunteering here! Everyone here is 100% about all the animals. I would suggest adopting from here, be it dogs, cats, farm animals, etc. I would also suggest volunteering here if you have the time. You really leave feeling rewarded from all the love the animals give
You can tell they really care about their rescues. It was heartbreaking to see all of the fur babies that needed homes. They had quite a few super cute babies and kittens. For everyone thinking about bringing one of these beautiful creatures into your home, pack your patience and stick it out. The love they will give will be worth all the hard work and dedication.
